Stasia Cramer has been writing children’s books for almost thirty years. She has specialized in books about ponies. Stasia: 'I like to write about ponies and love. I ran around in stables my entire childhood and every ponylover knows how infectious the pony virus can be. Ponies are just so, how can I put it? They’re so earthy and pony-like. They smell so nice, make such wonderful sounds and they’re so big and warm and pet-able. Now we live on a farm and have nine ponies. In the summer we organize training weekends and pony camps. More than enough inspiration for stories, obviously. But I also love to write about love. Even as the outside gets more and more wrinkly, I’ve always stayed seventeen in my heart. Chatting endlessly with friends, that lame laugh about nothing and fantasizing about that knight in shining armor. If only I was still so young. But it’s wonderful being able to call up those days again by writing stories. That may be the best thing about writing books: for a time, you’re just as young as the main character.'
Stasia wrote: - 6 loose titles for the target group 8 - 10 years old. - A series of 4 titles for the age group 9 - 11 years. The series ‘The Mini-Stable’ consists of four adventures of Tonke - a modern day 10 year old girl - who, in hilarious style, saves little girls and ponies from awkward situations. The first two books have been released as an anthology in Germany under the title ‘Pferdeträume’.
- A series of 4 titles for the age group 10 - 12 years. The stories in the series ‘The King stables’ all take place in the same stables, but in every book we encounter a different main character. The first two books have been released as an anthology in Germany under the title ‘Die Freunde vom Ponyhof’ and the last two books under the title ‘Neue Freunde vom Ponyhof’ (Ravensburger Buchverlag). - 5 loose titles for the age group 11 - 14 years. These titles are all about love and horses. They are written according to the ‘easy reading’ formula: simple storylines, uncomplicated language use and a cliffhanger at the end of every chapter. One of these titles was also released in Germany in 2002 under the title ‘Verliebt hoch zwei’ (Ravensburger Buchverlag). - A series of 4 titles for the age group 12 and up. The series ‘Liberty Love’ is a soap opera series that takes place at a stable. The series is written like any other soap, with ingredients like love, glamour, loyalty, and family values, but also hate, envy, and betrayal. All characters receive more or less the same amount of attention and are followed to the last chapter of the last book. Every chapter ends with a cliffhanger. - A loose title for the age group 12 and up: a novel about a kidnapped girl and an Arabian stallion. This title has not been available in the Netherlands for some time now, but I still regularly receive letters asking if it is still for sale somewhere because they would very much like to read it again. Included in the information about this title is a book report from a student.
